6 Core Laptop Buying Guide
Laptops offer a convenient, portable way to work and surf the internet. In addition, six core laptops offer the greatest computational power currently available. Before investing in a 6 core laptop there a some thing you need to consider.
Choosing a 6 Core Laptop
Since portability is a major appeal of laptops the size and weight of the 6 core laptop that you choose is important information. Clearly, larger laptops will weigh more and are inherently less portable. At the same time larger laptops provide larger screen area and often have keyboards which are more comfortable to use. Furthermore, larger laptops also provide more a space allowing for extra components such as graphics cards, media center functionality, larger hard drives, optical drives (CD/DVD and or BR) and so on and so forth. Again these features come at the expense of both weight and extra power consumption which lead to lower battery life. While most laptop manufacturers allow you to upgrade form a 6 to a 9 cell battery to improve battery life this upgrade will add significant weight to the device.
It is also important to consider your laptop’s connectivity options. By connectivity options I do not simply mean the ability to connect wirelessly to the internet. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a 6 core laptop without this option. That said the last laptop I purchased had a switch which allowed me to turn off the wireless internet. Originally I thought this feature was completely useless but in situations where you have a landline and the wireless connection may be weak, slow or unstable this feature can be quite useful. However, what I meant be connectivity options are things like Intel’s Wireless Display technology which allows you to wirelessly stream video from your laptop onto a TV (with an appropriate adapter…). You may also want your 6 core laptop to have a HDMI output so that you are able to connect you r laptop to your TV and use it as a DVD or blue ray player. Additionally if you want to connect your laptop to an external monitor ensure that your laptop has the appropriate output (for example DVI, VGA, HDMI). The discussion of connectivity options should not end there you should consider how many USB devices you have and whether or not you have enough ports to accommodate them all. I use USB devices like a wireless mouse, a flash drive, and external hard drive, a printer/scanner, and an ipod. Usually, I only need to use two devices at any one time; however, it is not uncommon for me to use three devices at once. In addition, If you have any USB 3.0 devices you will need to have compatible inputs to get optimal performance. Finally, features like a buit in SD card reader are becoming standard but will be useful for anyone who uses a digital camera.
6 core Laptop Extras
6 core laptop extra’s are also worth considering. Webcams are standard on most 6 core laptops however they are omitted on some netbooks and smaller laptops. A built in fingerprint reader is a neat, although unnecessary, feature. Being able to log in into windows or an website with the swipe of a finger can really impress your friends; however, in my experience these devices are unreliable (mine only works 25% of the time). If you are a night typer you may also find a backlit keyboard to be a useful feature. Personally, I love this feature and actually purchased a backlit keyboard for my desktop as well. Finally, if you have a lot of bluetooth devices you should check to see if your 6 core laptop will support bluetooth.
Virtually all new 6 core laptops come with free trials to some premium security sweet. Personally I uninstall it as soon as I fire up my laptop and do not register my email address with them since I dislike the spam. I find these packages are often bloated and slow down my laptop. I generally use free security software such as AVG Free or Microsoft Security Essentials. I have never had problems with this protection although I would not consider my browsing behavior to be “high risk”. Other security features you may want for your laptop include the ability to attach a lock and tracking software which allows for your laptop to be found if stolen. Several computer companies offer free trail to data backup servers with your purchase. In most cases I feel that these services are overpriced. If you want remote dta to be backed up on an external server I recommend you look into a program called dropbox. The free version of dropbox automatically backs up a folder of up to 2GB. In addition this folder can by synched between all of your computers. Furthermore, you can also share subfolders with your friends and by referring friends you can increase your storage space to 8GB. Another data security option is to purchase an external hard drive with autobackup software.
Other 6 Core Laptop Buying Considerations
When buying a 6 core laptop it is also important to look at the warranty. Don’t just look at the length of the warranty also pay attention to what is covered and how service is provided. For example the best service is typically in house where a technician comes to your house to fix your computer. Another option i s “return to depot” where you send your laptop back for repairs. Obvious disadvantages with this method are that you may be required to pay shipping costs and can be without your computer for extended periods do time. Another form of warranty would be parts only in which your computer would be remotely diagnosed and you would be shipped replacement parts. Since most people are not comfortable taking apart laptops (which usually voids warranty as well) there may be labor costs associated with using this kind of warranty.
You may also want to consider the quality of the 6 core laptop companies customer support. Are the call centers located in North America or have they been outsourced to other countries to save money? Do they even offer customer support? Some computer manufacturers only offer customer support if you purchase it as an additional service.
There is much more to 6 core laptop buying than simply buying whatever machine happens to be on sale at the time. Before you spend money on a laptop consider these factors carefully.
